Afoxolaner is a systemic insecticide and acaricide that is administered orally or topically.

Afoxolaner inhibits γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-gated chloride channels (GABAA receptors) and L-glutamate-gated chloride channels (GluCls). Potency of Afoxolaner is comparable to fipronil.

It is a widely spectrum insecticide with good insecticidal activity against ticks, fleas, lice, hemiptera and diptera, and its virulence is higher than or comparable to that of commonly used insecticides.
