Introduction
Ivermectin is a derivative of Avermectin, it is a new efficient semi synthetic antibiotic insecticide, acaricide and nematicide, which belongs to insect nerve agent and biological penetrant. The mechanism of action is to interfere with the neurophysiological activities of pests and stimulate their release γ- Aminobutyric acid acts on nerve and muscle junctions, increases the release of chloride ions, inhibits the information transmission of nerve junctions, and leads to paralysis and poisoning death of pests and mites. The product is colorless or light brownish yellow liquid.
Ivermectin, is an antiparasitic drug. It firstly uses were in veterinary medicine to prevent and treat heartworm and acariasis.
Ivermectin is a new broad-spectrum, high-efficiency and low toxicity antibiotic antiparasitic drug, which has good repellent effect on internal and external parasites, especially nematodes and arthropods. But it’s useless for tapeworm, trematode and protozoa.
Nowadays, it is used to treat infestations including head lice, scabies, river blindness, strongyloidiasis, trichuriasis, ascariasis and lymphatic filariasis. It works through many mechanisms to kill the targeted parasites, and can be taken orally, or applied to the skin for external infestations. It belongs to the avermectin family of medications.
It’s a white or yellowish crystalline powder, soluble in methanol, esters and aromatic hydrocarbons, insoluble in water. The injections and tablets made of ivermectin are mainly used to treat gastrointestinal nematodiasis, bovine fly maggots, dermatoglyphic fly maggots, sheep nose fly maggots, pig and sheep scabies of domestic animals. Besides, Ivermectin can also be used to treat parasitic nematodes in poultry such as Ascaris, pulmonary nematodes, etc. It can also be made into agricultural insecticides and acaricides for killing mites, diamondback moths, Pieris rapae, leaf miner, wood lice, nematodes, etc. which are widely parasitic on plants. The outstanding features are light side effects, one-time drug use simultaneously can kill variety of parasites in vivo and in vitro both.
